Your first yoga class... how to prepare

The Yoga Rescue - Yoga for everyone

Starting yoga for the first time? Don’t worry! At The Yoga Rescue, we welcome beginners in nearly all our classes.

Here’s everything you need to be prepared when you step onto the mat.

What to Wear

Comfortable, stretchy clothing is perfect. You don’t need anything fancy. Just clothes you can move and breathe in. Avoid anything too loose, as it may get in the way during certain poses.

What to Bring

We provide yoga mats and props like blocks and straps in the studio, so you don’t have to bring anything unless you want to use your own. A small towel and a bottle of water are always helpful.

What Classes to Start With

While most of our sessions are open-level and beginner-friendly, some styles are gentler to start with. The following classes are recommended to start with:

  • Morning Yoga
  • Hatha Yoga
  • Gentle Flow

If you’re new, these classes are a great way to learn the basics in a supportive environment. More dynamic classes like Vinyasa, Power Yoga, or Inside Flow can be fun, but might feel fast-paced when you are just starting to discover yoga.

Check our class schedule and check for classes that indicate All levels or Beginners. Make sure to check out the Sound Healing and meditation classes that we offer. Yoga is just as much about the mind as it is about the body.

What to Expect

Make sure to inform the teacher that you are a beginner and always respect your limits, every body is different.  Our teachers always give options and adjustments so that you can follow along at your own pace. We focus on creating a calm, supportive space for everyone. No judgment, no pressure.

Still not sure? You can always start with a private session to build confidence one-on-one before joining a group class.
