Ashtanga & Mysore Yoga in Jimbaran, Bali
Traditional. Structured. Transformative.
Ashtanga yoga is one of the oldest and most complete yoga systems in existence. A structured sequence of postures linked by breath and movement, it builds strength, flexibility, and mental clarity in equal measure. It is not a practice you master quickly. It is one you return to, week after week, and find something new each time.
At The Yoga Rescue we teach Ashtanga the traditional way. The sequence is respected as it was designed. The teacher is present, attentive, and gives hands-on guidance where it serves you.
Classes are kept small enough that your practice actually gets seen.
We offer three entry points into the practice:
Ashtanga Mysore: A self-directed practice with the teacher present throughout. You move through the sequence at your own pace and receive individual adjustments and instruction. Mysore is the authentic format in which Ashtanga was designed to be taught. It rewards consistency and suits practitioners of all levels, including complete beginners who want to learn the sequence properly from the start.
Ashtanga Primary Series: A led class working through the full primary series together. The teacher calls the postures and breath count, holding the group to the same rhythm. Good for building familiarity with the sequence and experiencing the practice as a collective effort.
Ashtanga for Beginners: Designed for those new to the practice or returning after time away. The pace is measured, the foundations are taught properly, and no prior experience is assumed.
All classes are open to drop-ins. No booking required, though checking the schedule before you come is always a good idea. Our studio is in Jimbaran, a short drive from Uluwatu, Ungasan, and Pecatu.
What to expect?
Your first Ashtanga class will likely feel like more than you anticipated. The sequence is physical and the breath work is constant. You will be guided, but you will also be challenged. That is the point.
In Mysore you set your own pace. The teacher observes, adjusts, and adds postures as your practice develops. No two sessions are identical because you are not identical from one week to the next. In led classes the teacher holds the group to a shared rhythm, which brings its own kind of discipline. In the beginner sessions the pace slows down and the foundations get the attention they deserve.
Expect to sweat. Your mind will quiet down somewhere in the middle. You will leave feeling different from when you arrived.

Who is it for
Ashtanga yoga is for anyone willing to show up consistently. It suits people who want a practice with clear structure rather than something that changes every class. It works well for those who like to see their own progress over time.
The Mysore format is particularly well suited to people with irregular schedules, since you practice at your own pace within the session window. The beginner class is the right starting point if you have never practiced ashtanga yoga before or if you want to learn the foundations before joining a led class.
You do not need to be fit, flexible, or experienced. You need to be willing.
The benefits of Ashtanga
Practiced regularly, Ashtanga builds functional strength through the whole body, not isolated muscle groups. The continuous breath-movement connection develops focus and a quality of attention that carries beyond the mat. Flexibility follows naturally over time, without being the goal.
The repetition of a fixed sequence is deliberate. Returning to the same postures allows you to notice what has shifted, physically and mentally. Many practitioners find it becomes a reliable anchor in daily life, particularly during periods of stress or change.
The traditional approach we follow at The Yoga Rescue means you are learning the practice as it was intended, with a teacher who knows where you are in it.
