Aerial Yoga at The Yoga Rescue

Aerial Yoga has a certain magic to it. The hammock hanging from the ceiling looks playful at first, but once you step into it, the practice becomes something completely different. It feels supportive, freeing, and surprisingly meditative.

So… what is aerial yoga?

Aerial yoga uses a soft, durable fabric hammock to support your body in both grounded poses and suspended movements. Sometimes the hammock works like a strap to help you stretch, and other times it lifts your hips or legs so you can hang comfortably upside down.
It is a blend of yoga, pilates, dance, and aerial arts. But… you do not need experience in any of these. Curiosity is more than enough.

Why students love it

The hammock allows you to move in ways that feel lighter and more spacious than a mat-based class. It takes pressure off your joints and gives you access to deeper stretches with less strain.

Students often notice:

  • Spinal decompression from supported inversions

  • Better flexibility thanks to deeper, assisted stretches

  • Upper-body and core strength because the hammock activates stabilizing muscles

  • A playful and energizing mood boost

It is common to leave class feeling relaxed and refreshed, almost like you combined a stretch session with a massage.

Is it beginner friendly?

Yes. At The Yoga Rescue, aerial classes are taught in a supportive, step-by-step way. Instructors adjust the hammock to the right height and guide you through each movement so you always feel safe and stable.
You do not need to be flexible or strong to begin. The hammock supports your weight and helps you build confidence naturally.

What to wear and bring

For comfort and for the safety of the fabric, it helps to come prepared:

  • Wear fitted clothing without zippers or other (sharp) objects.

  • Remove jewelry, since these can snag or damage the hammock

  • Practice barefoot for the best grip

Thinking about trying It?

If you are curious about inversions, want to try something playful, or simply need a new way to unwind and stretch, aerial yoga is a welcoming place to start.
